There is nothing more satisfying than being inspired and creating something that can benefit others, which is why I recently obtained an MS degree in Human Computer Interaction with emphasis in design from the School of Informatics and Computing (SOIC) at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. As a mom with two grown children, widower, graduate, and now newlywed, I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to enrich my life with an education in design.
Technology has changed so much within my lifetime. Learning about current trends in design and about the future of technology is fascinating. I find it mind-boggling to think smart cities could be in our near future!
Design and visual communication have always intrigued me. UX design, in particular, has inspired me to find solutions that can make the world a better place to live in and to communicate in a clear, concise way. What I liked most about the HCI program that I recently completed in May of 2017 was the opportunity to work in groups and share each other’s ideas, talents and expertise. I also enjoyed working with the international students and learning how other countries and cultures are incorporating technology into their lives. Having lived in various states in addition to Canada, Mexico, Spain, and France, I am always open to learning about different cultures and perspectives.
My life has undergone many changes since graduation. I have transitioned from empty nester to newlywed and from city life to farm life. In my free time I enjoy painting, playing the piano and violin, experimenting in the kitchen, creative writing, and ballet. Below is my mixed media interpretation of one of Bach’s Fugues, which I received the Spotlight Award and First Place at the Ventura County Fair.
